Main Street Port Clinton remembers John Blatt. We lost John on Thursday February 21st after a lengthy illness.  John will be greatly missed as a member and patron of Main Street Port Clinton and a supporter of the Walleye festival.  We would like to acknowledge John for the following deeds and contributions:

Ø       He was the chairman of the Kids Fishing Derby for the Walleye Festival.  He was adamant that all the kids not pay for participating in the derby so he picked up the tab for all the poles, bait, prizes and he made sure all the kids received a ball cap and a goodie bag. Over 250 kids participated.

Ø       He started the Educational Tent for the Walleye Festival.  John thought it was important that people attending the Walleye Festival have exposure to events and educational demonstrations not normally available to the public.  He brought in the NASA space exploration trailer; he paid for the fuel to run the trailer during the 5 day festival and bought the Polaroid film so everyone that went through the trailer could have a free memento of the event. The trailer was so highly attended, NASA agreed to bring the trailer back for a second unprecedented year.  John also had live bald eagles in the tent along with snakes, owls and a whole host of animals and fish indigenous to this area. His absolute favorite event was the K-9 demonstrations featuring Officer Phil Howell and Alex.    He personally wrote contribution checks to many of the educators.

Ø       The most highly attended event at the Walleye Festival and in the City of Port Clinton’s history was the Elvis Presley Impersonator contest.  John completely underwrote the cost of the entire production. He wanted everyone to have a good time and great memories of Port Clinton.  John did not even go into the tent where the event was being held; he preferred to listen to the cheers from the nearby office trailer. In typical John fashion, the whole show was free to the public.

Ø       John also bought much of the office equipment and furniture for the MSPC office. He simply walked in, asked Laura what was needed and showed up several hours later with a van full of equipment.

We will miss such a dedicated fan of our cause.  We encourage everyone to go to the Walker Funeral Home website and sign their guestbook with your thoughts for John:  www.walkerfuneralhomes.com
